One of the best fine dining restaurants on the Makarska Riviera, it's clear that time and care has gone into creating the wine pairing menu at Jeny and the expertise of the food preparation can hold a candle to many of Croatia's most awarded restaurants. A tasting menu, at 830 Kn per person, includes 7 plates and 6 wines. Located 3 km (2 miles) above Makarska in Tučepi on the road to Biokovo, it has a nice view overlooking the Makarska Riviera. The management is happy to call a taxi to bring you to the restaurant.
In a carefully restored 14th-century palazzo opposite the historic St. James Cathedral in Šibenik sits Pelegrini, one of seven restaurants in Croatia to hold a Michelin star—and the only one in Central Dalmatia to do so. Pelegrini's menu features traditional Dalmatian cuisine that is innovatively prepared, with exquisite flavor being the restaurant's guiding principle. Look out for shark ravioli, carrot with mussels and sausage, and nectarine cheesecake. The service is impeccable, the atmosphere unique, and the wine list is a throrough presentation of local and international labels. For dinner there is a minimum of four courses that can be chosen from a selection of up to 34 dishes. Ask to be seated along the pathway overlooking the cathedral.
Originally opened in 1883 as a lobster house, this cleverly converted restaurant has platforms with tables built out above the water, and small boats can drive right under the platforms and into the central dining room. The house specialty is jastog sa špagetima (lobster with spaghetti).
Spearheaded by renowned head chef Damir Sertić, Kadena serves Mediterranean fare with a contemporary twist in a modern and sleek interior space. Don't miss the salata od hobotnice (octopus salad), a trademark dish of Dalmatia.
Widely acknowledged to be the best restaurant on the island, Triton is particularly popular with those traveling by sailboat, who can moor up on a small quay out front. The owners catch and cook the fish themselves; they also produce the wine, olive oil, and vegetables. You'll find it in Zaklopatica, a north-facing bay 3 km (2 miles) west of Lastovo Town. There are several apartments to rent upstairs, too.
With a tremendous sense of style, TRS combines traditional food with modern ingredients that are freshly sourced from the owner's family farm in a nearby village. These unusual combinations, like chickpea puree and fried octupus, are a welcome change and still subtle enough to allow the strength of the traditional Dalmatian food to dominate. Try the monkfish medallions wrapped in pancetta with the house red wine for a nice change.
Tucked away in a picturesque courtyard off the main square, great care is taken at this sophisticated restaurant to select and focus on the best local, organic ingredients. The wine list is impressive and includes local standouts and a wide international selection. There's also live classical or jazz music on some nights.
A modern glass-and-wood conservatory that looks onto a courtyard garden of orange and lemon trees, Pojoda makes for a popular spot among the sailing crowd that won't disappoint a food-savvy traveler either. The dishes are named in local dialect: check out the manistra na brudet (bean and pasta soup) and luc u verudi (tuna stewed with vegetables), or try the pojorski bronzinić, a thick brodetto of squid with lentils and barley.
With tables set under the trees in the romantic walled garden of a 16th-century villa, dinner at this restaurant in Vis Town is an unforgettable experience. The menu changes daily depending on what fresh fish and shellfish are available. Your server will bring a platter to the table so you can choose your own fish before it's cooked. Fish is priced by weight so be careful what you order, and ask the waiter to clarify because there is no menu with clear prices.
This restaurant is located right by Diocletian's Palace on the Riva, and has the fabulous views to prove it. Grab a seat on the terrace under the palm trees and enjoy high quality Adriatic cuisine. Try out the seafood tagliatelle with shell clams, whitefish, and homemade white wine-flavored salsa.
Located right on the ACI Marina in Split, "Zrno Soli" means "grain of salt". This hot spot serves Mediterranean cuisine such as crni jakov, scallops with Adriatic prawns and cuttlefish ink-blackened gnocchi.
