Getting Around

Air Travel: Sofia Airport is the countrys largest, followed by Burgas and Varna. Some budget flights use Plovdiv.

Bus Travel: An extensive public bus system, while rundown, cheaply links the entire country. Nicer and somewhat costlier private buses connect bigger cities.

Car Travel: Cars are great for the countryside, but tricky in Sofia, and needless in walkable cities like Plovdiv and Varna. Remember that rural road signs only use Cyrillic characters, so spell out place names in advance and keep a good GPS on hand.

Train Travel: Trains connect most of the countrys cities, towns and villages at bargain rates, but can be rather dilapidated and often slower than buses.
