Ghent and the Leie
Contemporary
Editor's Note: This location is no longer in operation.
Covered food markets have only really just arrived in Belgium, and Ghent’s first has easily the most remarkable setting---the previously vacant 17th-century Abbey of Baudelo. Inside lies a smattering of local producers selling chocolate, cuberdons (cone-shaped Belgian candy), and craft beer alongside a wealth of food truck--style joints dishing out gourmet hot dogs and burgers, Lebanese food, and charcuterie. The most creative though is surely the bespoke Magnum stand, where visitors get to devise their own Magnum ice cream.
