Fodor's Expert Review Belga Queen

$$$ Ghent and the Leie Belgian Fodor's Choice

Editor's Note: This location is no longer in operation.

A high-concept restaurant in a magnificent location, this former granary borders the Leie and was redesigned by the chef himself, Antoine Pinto. These days, its reputation has slipped a little, but it can still rise to the big occasion. A large terrace leads to the ground floor's impressive bar, high tables, and cozy leather seats. The menu has daily fresh suggestions, and a three-course lunch is an affordable €18. Evening choices start around €30 for a main, with modern twists on Belgian classics such as local favorite Gentse waterzooi prepared with Mechelse koekoek (a particularly tasty local breed of chicken, which is translated, rather misleadingly, as "cuckoo" on the menu).
