The Austrians take special pride in their traditional clothing (called trachten) and think naught of the kitschy von Trapp clan when doing so. Lederhosen and dirndls are worn at festivals and special occasions, and men's and women's trachtenjacken are worn in daily attire. Perhaps the best place to purchase traditional clothing is at Loden-Plankl, which stocks hand-embroidered jackets and lederhosen for kids. The building, opposite the Hofburg, is a centuries-old treasure.
