North of the River Salzach

Across the River Salzach from the Old City is the Neustadt (New City) area of historic Salzburg, where you'll find Mirabell Palace and Gardens, the Landestheater, and the Mozart Residence, among other highlights. If you want to see the most delightful Mozart landmark in this section of town, the Zauberflötenhäuschen—the mouthful used to describe the little summerhouse where he finished composing The Magic Flute—can be viewed when concerts are scheduled in the adjacent Mozarteum. Overlooking the Neustadt to the south is the tree-shrouded hill Kapuzinerberg, flanked by the medieval Steingasse and topped by the Kapuzinerkloster (Capuchin Monastery).
