When to Go

The physical geography of the Tyrol and Vorarlberg makes them perfect for enjoying outdoor life year-round. Ski-crazy travelers descend on the resorts during the winter months; in summer, when the mountains are awash with wildflowers, campers’ tents spring up like mushrooms in the valleys as hikers, spelunkers, mountain bikers, and climbers take advantage of the soaring peaks. High season for summer activities is July through August, while the skiing season begins in many resorts in late November or early December and can go on until early May in the higher ski areas. If you're in the Vorarlberg in summer be sure to stop in Bregenz, when the city comes to life with the Bregenzer Festspiele (Bregenz Music Festival). Also boat excursions to Switzerland and Germany are a must. You can even rent a boat and go out on the lake to do some fishing.
