Located in the South District, this is a great place to pick up the essentials if you're staying on this end of the island.
Here you'll find basic island staples—peas (which are actually beans used in the local "peas and rice"), rice, milk, sugar, cream, juices, and bottled water, along with an assortment of canned goods.
Basic food supplies are available here, including rice and canned goods, as well as toiletries. Sometimes, Netty also bakes bread for sale, so make sure you ask if there's any fresh bread when you visit.
In its heyday, Salt Cay was one of the wealthiest islands in the Caribbean due to its salt. Now a team of women lovingly prepares the native salt in decorative bottles so that visitors may purchase them as a keepsake; use it in your bath or for your margaritas! You can buy them at their place, as well as in a variety of shops throughout the country.
Affiliated with Salt Cay Divers, this little shop has art prints, clothes, and jewelry. Local handcrafted items include watercolors and acrylics, Haitian art, maps, locally made salsa and hot rubs, Bambarra rum, and Salt Cay beach-glass jewelry. There's also an assortment of souvenirs: shot glasses, caps, and T-shirts. If you're a birder, pick up a copy of The Birds of Turks and Caicos to help you identify the island's many birds.
