Local Turks and Caicos Souvenirs

What should you bring home after a fabulous vacation in the Turks and Caicos? Here are a few suggestions, some of which are free!

If you’re a beachcomber, you might find a sand dollar or conch shells to bring home. But remember, much of the north shore is part of the Princess Alexandra National Park, so you are not allowed to take anything away —only enjoy it while you are there. You will have to go shelling outside the parks. Of course, you can find wonderfully polished shells at many of the souvenir stops, as well as at the Conch Shack and Bugaloo’s.

You'll find locally made ceramics at Art Provo, as well as at Turks & Caicos National Trust in Town Center Mall downtown.

There are two cultural centers, one between Ocean Club and Club Med next to Ricki’s, and the other across the street from Beaches’ easternmost entrance. In addition, there is a crafts market called Alverna’s Market on Dolphin Road, just down from Gracebay Gourmet IGA. Here you'll find a wide variety of items, including batik clothing, locally made jewelry, Haitian metal art, and much more. Custom-made pieces can be ordered.

One of the best souvenirs is the hardcover coffee-table cookbook from the Red Cross. Not only is it gorgeous, featuring recipes from all the wonderful chefs of the Turks and Caicos, but the proceeds help the Red Cross in its endeavors.

The best free souvenir—besides your phenomenal tan—is a potcake puppy. The puppy you adopt comes with carrier, papers, and all the shots—and will remind you year after year of your terrific vacation. Let’s not forget there are local potkittens, too!
