Grand Turk in a Day

It's easy to take a day trip from Provo to Grand Turk to see this sleepy, colorful island that's completely different from Provo. Make arrangements before going over so that you can have a golf cart, bike, or car waiting at the airport.

From the airport take a right and drive to Front Street. Walk the colorful quiet street with historical houses. Do not miss the small Turks and Caicos National Museum—even if you are not a museum person—as this one is quite fascinating. Stop at Bohio Dive Resort, north past Front Street (take your transportation), to snorkel and to enjoy Pillory Beach. This is also a good place for lunch.

If a cruise ship is in port, you can drive past the airport to the cruise center to check out the shopping and people-watch. The stores at the cruise terminal are the only real shops on island, and there's also a casino nearby. It's a complete contrast to Front Street. You can also tour Her Majesty's Prison.

Set up an excursion to Gibbs Cay and swim with the stingrays. January through April also brings whales as they migrate past; whale-watching tours are possible to fit in to a single-day visit. Be careful, though, as you'll need to be back at the airport 30 minutes before the flight back to Provo.
