Cruise-Ship Travel to Tobago

Scarborough, Tobago's lazy and hilly capital, is where all cruise ships dock. The cruise terminal is at the base of the city, near the market, many colorful shops, and fast-food restaurants. There are shops selling goods specifically marketed to tourists right at the port, but a short stroll around the streets of downtown can yield considerably more interesting treasures.

Although you can easily walk into town, the island's best beaches and restaurants are in Crown Point. Because of the narrow roads and hilly terrain—not to mention aggressive drivers who like to drive very fast—it's a bad idea to rent a car. If you do choose to drive yourself, remember that driving is on the left, British-style. Taxis flock to the port whenever a cruise ship arrives. Authorized taxis always have a license plate starting with the letter H (for hire). Although rates are technically fixed, it's still worth negotiating with the driver.
