Fodor's Expert Review Firefly Mustique

VC0100, St. Vincent and the Grenadines

Editor's Note: This location is no longer in operation.

Built as a private villa in the early 1970s, this tiny, charming, three-story hotel is wedged into dense tropical foliage on a steep hillside above Britannia Bay and offers sweeping ocean views from each amazing room. One room has a private deck with hot tub; another, a plunge pool; another, an open-air shower; three have four-poster beds. Each is equipped with a sound dock or Bluetooth speaker. A waterfall connects the inn's two pools, and the beach is just down the (rather steep) garden path. Because the resort is built on a hillside and most rooms are accessed via a spiral staircase, it is not a suitable choice for guests with young children or folks with disabilities. All meals are included, as well as picnic lunches, afternoon tea, and sunset snacks. Firefly's restaurant, open to the public, serves Caribbean cuisine, gourmet pizza, and pasta dishes.

PROS

  • relaxed and friendly spot with abundant cachet

CONS

  • not suited to kids or anyone with physical challenges
  • house-party atmosphere at the bar can become noisy at night
  • same restaurant menu every day
