Fodor's Expert Review Cobblestone Inn
Upper Bay St., Kingstown, St. Vincent, St. Vincent and the Grenadines
This boutique hotel is cozy, convenient, inexpensive, and loaded with historic charm—but it's nowhere near a beach. Instead, it's near the waterfront in "the city," as Vincentians call Kingstown, in a government-owned building that was once used as a warehouse for sugar and arrowroot. Converted to a hotel in 1970, the building has original (1814) Georgian architecture, a sunny interior courtyard, and a warren of cobblestone alcoves, walkways, and arches. Rooms are tiny but exquisitely decorated with rich fabrics and impressive antique beds, dressers, and rugs. Each room boasts original stone walls and a private bath with modern conveniences. Suite 28 is particularly special, with a separate sitting area, two large beds, and a grand glass-and-wrought-iron double-door entry. An open-air rooftop bar–restaurant serves breakfast and light lunches. The popular Basil's Bar & Restaurant is at ground level.
