Fodor's Expert Review The Great House

Elegant, gracious, and romantic, the Great House was reconstructed on the foundation of an original Cap Estate plantation house adjacent to Smugglers Cove Resort & Spa. The grandeur of those early days has been revived as well. The waitstaff wears traditional St. Lucian costumes. The chef adds a piquant creole touch to traditional French cuisine—with excellent results. The menu, which changes nightly, might include pumpkin-and-potato soup, local crab back with lime vinaigrette, sautéed Antillean shrimp in a creole sauce, and broiled sirloin with thyme butter and sweet-potato chips. Cocktails at the open-air bar are especially enjoyable at sunset. The Derek Walcott Theatre is next door.
