One of the Caribbean's finest examples of Art Deco architecture, this ship-shape hotel hosted high-society types back in the 1930s. After a stem-to-stern renovation, it's ready to sail again. Egyptian motifs in the grand ballroom and other period details have been meticulously restored. Guest rooms, many of which are as big as suites, are decorated in shades of cream and oatmeal. Business travelers will appreciate the huge desks with ergonomic chairs. Those in search of relaxation need look no further than the sparkling pool or the compact spa with its massage area overlooking the ocean. N Bar, on the second floor, has quickly become a see-and-be-seen place for the city's trendy crowd. As this writing, the Normandie was expected to be rebranded as a W Hotel, but no date had been set for the transition.
