Getting around southern Puerto Rico without a car can be quite frustrating. You can rent cars at the Luis Muñoz Marín International Airport and other San Juan locations. There are also car-rental agencies in some of the larger cities along the south coast. Rates run about $35–$65 a day. A road map is essential in southern Puerto Rico. So is patience: allow extra time for twisting mountain roads and wrong turns. Many roads, especially in rural areas, aren't plainly marked.
