Fishing

Danny Sweeney. Deep-sea fishing (wahoo, bonito, shark, marlin, and yellowfin tuna) is superb, since the waters aren't disturbed by leviathan cruise ships. Affable Danny Sweeney (ask him why Dire Straits' "Walk of Life" allegedly memorializes him) has won several regional tournaments, including Montserrat's Open Fishing Competition. Half-day charters (up to four people) are $350. Though schools of game fish amazingly cavort just 2 to 3 miles (3 to 5 km) offshore, Danny's depth sounder picks up action in deeper waters. An extra bonus on the open sea is the gripping views of the volcanic devastation. He also runs Plymouth/island circumnavigation boat tours for $50 per person. Olveston, St. Peter. 664/491–5645.
