Fodor's Expert Review Plage de la Grande-Anse

Elsewhere on Basse-Terre Beach

One of Guadeloupe's widest beaches has soft beige sand sheltered by palms. To the west it's a round verdant mountain. It has a large parking area and some food stands, but no other facilities. The beach can be overrun on Sundays, not to mention littered, due to the food carts. Right after the parking lot, you can see signage for the creole restaurant Le Karacoli; if you have lunch there (it's not cheap), you can sieste on the chaise longues. At the far end of the beach, which is more virgin territory, is Tainos Cottages, which has a restaurant. Amenities: food and drink; parking (no fee). Best for: partiers; solitude; swimming; walking.
