Fodor's Expert Review Maca Bana
Maurice Bishop Memorial Hwy., Point Salines, St. George, Grenada Fodor's Choice
Clustered on a 2-acre hillside overlooking mile-long Magazine Beach, each of Maca Bana's seven private villas ("banas") has a great view—of the white sand below, out to sea, up the coastline to pretty St. George's Harbour, and beyond toward cloud-capped mountains. Each 'bana is named for a tropical fruit, a theme that carries through to the decor. And each has a spacious veranda with a private massaging hot tub. A small but inviting infinity pool is open to all guests. This tiny boutique resort is truly green. The water heaters and kitchen appliances are all solar-powered, and verdant gardens studded with fruit trees and herbal plants are nurtured with compost from the Aquarium Restaurant. Villas accommodate two to six people, but families with young children should be aware of the steep terrain and koi ponds. Roomy kitchens are fully equipped, including an espresso machine and groceries for your first breakfast. Don't feel like cooking? Arrange for a restaurant chef to come to your own kitchen and prepare a sumptuous breakfast or dinner—the chefs also offer private Grenadian cooking lessons in your kitchen. You can also arrange a personal yoga or tai chi lesson on your own deck.
