Fodor's Expert Review Coco Boutique Hotel

Arzobispo Porte 7, corner of Las Damas, Santo Domingo, Nacional, 10210, Dominican Republic

Editor's Note: This location is no longer in operation.

Behind the pale, Caribbean turquoise façade you'll find a very untypical bed-and-breakfast, not to mention earth tones with white—almost everywhere: the reception and lounge, the stark, wooden staircase, the grillwork on the French doors; it's breathtaking, actually, with the zebra-skin rug and dark green plants offering contrast. Coco, which is a handsome renovation of a circa-1920s house, has developed a soul, and the silver-and-gold furnishings give it a hint of Miami glitz as well. The charismatic owners, Elizabeth and Eduardo, who runs the hotel and food service, give it personality. She did the decorating and after so many raves, went back into the design business. Coco is getting raves from satisfied guests, especially now that more pillows and creature comforts have been added. Still relatively new is Spoon, a petite restaurant located on the rooftop. The menu is Mediterranean, with Spanish tortas and octopus, tuna tartare, etc.
