Fodor's Expert Review El Mambo
Editor's Note: This location is no longer in operation.
Convivial owners Juan and Paquita Rosell make this Spanish tapas bar as much a nightspot as a restaurant—especially every other Friday night, when about $10 buys you unlimited cold and hot tapas to absorb the alcohol. (These fiestas have various themes, such as "beach party.") Should you want a meal, order away: it's all good. Start by having shrimp with aioli, and work your way up to Catalan's version of paella, Fideua, which uses thin pasta rather than rice. The owners will introduce you around, and people will be dancing. Chances are you'll meet some colorful characters in the vibrant bar, where polka dots are part of the flamenco decor. Some expat will likely mention the town's credo before the night is over: Life's a beach, and at night it's a party.
