Fodor's Expert Review Meliá Jardines del Rey

Ciego de Ávila, Cuba Fodor's Choice

Cuba's largest hotel clocks in at an astounding 1,176 rooms, and, if you like large resorts with lots of activity, it'll work for you. This 2015 entry into the Cayo Coco sweepstakes sparkles and gleams with all the freshness of a brand-new hotel. Rooms scatter over the property in three-story bungalows with double beds, gleaming tile floors, and bright tropical colors. Only about 10% of the rooms here are designated as "sea view," but outside your door, you're never far from the ocean. With nine restaurants, you'll never go hungry, although keep in mind that some are included in your rate and others are à la carte.

PROS

  • tons of activity means you'll never be bored here
  • nine restaurants to choose from
  • web-only specials

CONS

  • this is not a place to go for solitude
  • the majority of rooms do not have sea views
