Ferry Travel

Ferries connect St. Thomas with Virgin Gorda; they leave from both Charlotte Amalie and Red Hook, but not daily. Ferries also link St. John and Tortola with Virgin Gorda. Ferries to Virgin Gorda land in Spanish Town. All ferries to Red Hook, St. Thomas stop in St. John first to clear U.S. customs. Ferry schedules vary by day, and not all companies make daily trips. The BVI Tourist Board website (www.bvitourism.com) has links for all the ferry companies, and their individual websites are the best up-to-date sources of information for specific routes and schedules.

The ferry service from the public dock in Spanish Town can be a tad erratic. Get there early to be sure it hasn't changed, and ask at the dock whether you're getting on the right boat. The Thursday and Sunday service between Virgin Gorda and St. John is particularly prone to problems.
