Fodor's Expert Review Tom Moore's Tavern

$$$ The Eastern Parishes Dinner Fodor's Choice

Tucked away from Harrington Sound Road, one of the island's oldest restaurants occupies a 17th-century Bermuda cottage with historical charm. Tom Moore was an Irish poet who lived and wrote on Bermuda in the early 19th century, but whether you're a fan of literature or not, the sophisticated, French-influenced menu and dreamy setting amid the Walsingham Nature Reserve offer an experience to remember. Though not inexpensive, the impeccably prepared cuisine is fresh, light, and innovative, perfect for a special occasion (reservations are required). Try the traditional fish chowder, warmed and completed tableside with Bermuda's ubiquitous sherry pepper sauce and Gosling's rum, but save room for one of the renowned dessert soufflés. Guests can dine in one of the five cozy rooms or, by special arrangement, alfresco on a terrace that overlooks Walsingham Bay.
