Try conch salad at the cluster of wooden shacks called the Fish Fry, just north of George Town. Pea soup and dumplings (made with pigeon peas) is a specialty here, and many local restaurants serve it as a weekly lunch special, usually on Wednesday.
Restaurants at larger resorts have upscale dining, including Continental twists on local cuisine—fresh snapper with mango salsa—as well as imported steaks, rack of lamb, and gourmet pizzas.
For the freshest—and according to locals, best—conch salad and the coldest beer, look for the splatter-painted seaside shack a stone's throw from Grand Isle Resort. Big D catches the conch right outside the restaurant and the salads are often prepared in front of customers. Other seafood favorites include the grilled snapper, cracked conch and coconut shrimp. You also can't get a better water view here, and the beach is great; bring a swimsuit.

Blu on the Water is a must-have dining experience when visiting Great Exuma. Between the stunning view of the Elizabeth Harbour from the dining area and the well-prepared meals—a fusion of Asian and Bahamian dishes, you're bound to be swept into culinary heaven. The scenic views and quiet ambiance make it one of the most romantic restaurants in Exuma; and according to locals, it's the best place in Exuma to get sushi.
Yacht folks, locals, and visitors alike rub shoulders at Kenneth Bowe's funky open-air beach bar on the point at Stocking Island. All of the food is grilled over an open fire; awesome conch burgers with secret spices, freshly made conch salad, pulled pork, and ribs attract diners from all over Great Exuma. Dances and bonfires on the beach during the winter season are famous island-wide. Sunday pig roasts, which start around noon, are legendary (call first to make sure it's scheduled). Most guests arrive by sailboat but you can get here by water taxi (242/464–1558; or call Capt. Elvis Ferguson on VHF radio channel 16) from the Government Dock, which leaves on the hour during the day.

During the day you may find you have the villa all to yourself as you take a dip in the pool, read, relax, and enjoy your picnic lunch. In the evenings, Hill House transforms into a lively and festive place where guests dress up and gather to enjoy drinks and delectable hors d'oeuvres. One can play a game of pool, darts, or backgammon in the bar area or simply socialize with friends and family taking in the gorgeous sunsets. The cocktail hour is followed by an amazing four-course gourmet dinner featuring a creative blend of Bahamian-inspired modern cuisine that the chef prepares daily with the freshest seafood and local ingredients. Even if you are not staying at the resort you can book a table at Hill House Restaurant for an unforgettable evening.
Santana's claim to fame, besides the beautiful ocean view and the delicious food, is that it was a favorite dining and hangout spot for the cast and crew during the filming of Pirates of the Caribbean. The menu features a range of Bahamian and American dishes, and Mom's bakery next door is famous for its fresh bread and mouthwatering rum cakes.
The Splash Bar and Grill located at Hideaways at Palm Bay is a fun eatery with a stunning view of the harbor and Stocking Island, which you can see by looking out from the wraparound windows. There's also an outdoor dining area if you prefer feeling the ocean breeze and warm weather while you eat. The restaurant's menu features a range of Bahamian specialties and American favorites. Indoors, there's a huge bar with swings as chairs, and pool tables for more fun. Take note of the hilarious signs posted on the walls of the restaurant.
Located in central George Town, just across from the Club Peace and Plenty, this café is a pleasant spot for a cup of coffee and hot breakfast sandwich in the morning. Driftwood Café also offers lunch, with specialties such as pizza, subs, and salads served with fresh lemonade or iced tea. Choose between air-conditioned seating inside, or tables outside on the private terrace.
In the heart of George Town is Eddie’s Edgewater, an authentic Bahamian restaurant serving three meals per day. The dining terrace offers a stunning view of Lake Victoria, while the indoor dining room and large bar at the front is a popular hangout spot on Monday when there's live music, lots of drinking, and dancing. If you're visiting for lunch, try to call ahead with your order as lunch hours mean a packed Eddie's.
Tucked away in the quaint Rolle Town by the bay, Haulover Bay Restaurant is a favorite among the tourists in Exuma, particularly because of its location. It's a popular lunch spot serving delicious Bahamian meals and cocktails. After your meal, you can walk out to the sandbar and hang out by the water where you're guaranteed to see starfish, sea turtles and possibly, a lemon shark. You can also rent a kayak to go to the nearby Man-O-War Cay.
MacDuff’s Restaurant offers a pleasant and mellow fine dining experience with delicious food and world-class service. The rustic-chic decor and exposed wood beams are designed to remind customers of the paradise that surrounds them, as does the outdoor dining area with a view of the ocean. Chef Jason Wallace prepares a blend of contemporary and Bahamian meals and while at the bar, you'll find bartenders serving local favorites like the Goombay Smash, Bahama Mama, or a Mango Daiquiri.
Stop by this deli to stock up on deli meats, cheeses, and gourmet meats like steak, filet mignon, pork chops, and more for your stay. Owners Ron and Susan Kemp also sell delicious chicken salad, crab salad, potato salad, and more. All are homemade and perfect for a beach picnic. The rotisserie chicken is extremely popular, as is the quality beef.
The view of the Exuma ocean is the perfect backdrop for a delicious meal in the dining room at this waterfront restaurant. Bahamian specialties such as cracked conch, fresh grouper, snapper, and grilled lobster with homemade bread are on the menu. Many of the herbs come fresh from the restaurant's garden. A dinner bell rings when dinner is ready and diners move from the bar to the dining room. You must place your dinner order by 4 pm. Three meals are served daily.
