Although a few menus, mostly in upscale resorts, feature dishes with international influences, most restaurants in the Abacos still serve simple Bahamian fare, with a few nods to American tastes. There are some fancier restaurants in Marsh Harbour, Treasure Cay, and Hope Town, but most restaurants are relaxed about attire and reasonably priced. Some offer live music, and shape the nightlife scene on weekends.
Stop off at this bakery–café in the Treasure Cay shopping strip for just-made muffins and some of the best cinnamon rolls you'll ever try. You'll know you've found it by the smell of those fresh-baked treats and the line of people waiting to indulge. They serve American and Bahamian cooked breakfast as well. Lunch is cheeseburgers, grouper fingers, lobster, and conch snacks, as well as a variety of sandwiches. Anglers can order picnic lunches to go. You can also arrange for the chef to cater private dinners of lobster, steak, and more in your rented condo or cottage.
Next door to Pete's Gallery is an outdoor tiki hut restaurant and bar where you can wiggle your toes in the sand while you chow down on fresh seafood, burgers, and cold tropical drinks. Try the mango-glazed grouper, lemon-pepper mahimahi, or coconut-cracked conch while you kick back and enjoy the view of the harbor. It's a long drive, so in the slow season, call ahead to make sure they're open.
Breakfast and lunch are served harborside on a covered, screened-in patio, while dinner takes place in the elegant dining room. At lunch, treat yourself to lobster or fish tacos, conch chowder, or a wrap. Dinner is where the club really shines, transporting you back to the 1920s with elegant dining beneath antique chandeliers. The steak is among the best around. The jumbo lobster and artichoke ravioli, crispy grouper with Thai red curry noodles, and black and white tuna are just some of the temptations on the extensive menu. Saturday night, prime rib takes center stage. You can also pre-order a picnic lunch to take out while you explore the island by golf cart or surrounding cays by boat.
Whether you pull in by golf cart or tie up by boat, it's worth the trip to this popular restaurant and bar. Seafood is their specialty, and the extensive menu makes choosing just one dish a challenge. Owned by the developers of Firefly Vodkas, this restaurant and bar carries the full line along with the Mo-Tea-To (their take on the mojito) and the Fly Swatter (a delicious mixture whose ingredients are a closely guarded secret). Locals travel from throughout the Abaco Islands chain to enjoy lunch or dinner here and catch one of the best views of the Sea of Abaco.
Breakfast, lunch, and dinner are simple Bahamian and American fare similar to what's on offer at other spots on the island. And while the delicious Bahamian food menu is worth a stop, it's the ice cream that draws the crowd to this whimsical little takeout restaurant in the middle of the island. There's even a coffee bar for that caffeine fix, served up iced or piping hot. There are a few chairs and tables on the outdoor porch, but most folks carry their food with them.
