Fodor's Expert Review Montagu Gardens
Editor's Note: This location is no longer in operation.
Angus beef and fresh native seafood—flame-grilled and seasoned with home-mixed spices—are the specialties at this simple but romantic restaurant in an old Bahamian home on Lake Waterloo. The dining room opens to a walled courtyard niched with Roman-style statues and gardens that lead to a waterside balustrade. Besides seafood and steak (carnivores should try the filet mignon smothered in mushrooms), menu selections include chicken, lamb, pasta, ribs, and several Bahamian-inspired dishes such as conch fritters and cracked coconut conch. A favorite dessert is the Fort Montagu mud pie. They offer a free ride both to and from Paradise Island and Cable Beach; just call to make a reservation.
