Fodor's Expert Review Old Freetown Beach

Greater Grand Bahama Beach
This lightly visited beach will take you far from the tourist crowds and resorts. Airplane parts in the water from a long-ago crash are visible from shore and easy to see at low tide on a calm day. Local island sip-sip (gossip) is that the prop and fuselage pieces belonged to a wayward drug-smuggling plane, but no official word has ever confirmed. Considered one of the prettiest beaches on the island, with a wide scattering of sea biscuits, blinding white sand, and shallow turquoise water, the best part here is that you will most likely have the whole stretch of sand to yourself! Amenities: none. Best for: solitude; swimming; walking.
