Fodor's Expert Review Rainbow Inn
Queen's Hwy., Hatchet Bay, Eleuthera Island, Bahamas Fodor's Choice
Immaculate, generously sized cottages, some octagonal—all with large private porches—have sweeping views of the ocean. The resort got new Canadian owners in 2009. The restaurant is one of the island's best, and islanders drive great distances for a meal here, especially when the famed Dr. Sea Breeze or other local musicians strum away and sing island tunes on Wednesday nights (in high season). The Nautical Bar, hung with authentic ships' wheels salvaged from wrecks, attracts British and American expats as well as locals. A sublime beach is a long walk down the paved road; rent a car or use the on-property swimming dock. The helpful staff will arrange fishing trips and adventure tours.
