Fodor's Expert Review Duck Inn and Orchid Gardens
Corner of Pine and Queen's Hwy., Governor's Harbour, Eleuthera Island, Bahamas
Facing west into the sunset, overlooking beautiful Governor's Harbour, two colonial cottages and a two-story home built in the 1850s are surrounded by a tropical garden with a superb orchid collection. John and Kay Duckworth bought the compound from a Canadian timber baron and restyled the houses. With one bedroom each, the cottages are perfect for couples. Each dwelling has a full kitchen (there are grocery stores just a block away) and a veranda. A full-time gardener tends to tropical fruit trees including plums, papayas, figs, dates, and carambolas; you are welcome to pick and eat.
PROS
- historic buildings

- lush orchid gardens
CONS
