Fodor's Expert Review Mangrove Cay Club
Mangrove Cay, Andros Island, Bahamas
Located on the rocky south shore of the Middle Bight, 1½ miles northwest of Mangrove Cay Airport, is this purely for bonefishing club that only offers fishing-dining-lodging packages normally sold through fishing and hunting agencies. Not for kids or beach lovers, Mangrove Cay Club is nonetheless highly praised by hard-core fishermen. Well-managed, superbly equipped, with personally trained guides, this high-quality lodge is probably one of the most professional outfits in the Bahamas. For catching large bonefish—and a lot of them—you couldn't do better. The eight high-quality cottage suites sleep a total of 16 and are devoid of distractions such as Wi-Fi, phones, TV, or music. You'll find all that in the main lodge where superb fresh seafood and alcoholic drinks are all included. Bikes to visit nearby Moxey Town are free. The bight has strong currents; swimming is possible and, advisedly, only close to shore in the tiny man-made sandy cove.
PROS
- close to prized bonefish areas
- great fishing gear and skiffs
- superbly trained guides
CONS
- hard to swim in currrents
- no beach
- somewhat remote
