Fodor's Expert Review Quinta del Carmen
Quinta del Carmen is set in a beautifully restored 100-year-old mansion with stunning manicured lawns and a lovely outdoor courtyard. The cuisine here is best defined as modern Caribbean-Dutch with a few traditional Dutch favorites, like cheese croquettes and mushrooms and cream, appearing on the menu as "Grandma's favorites." The watermelon salad is sweet, salty, and perfectly refreshing, and the sucade-lappen (flank steak stewed in red wine and herbs) has a depth of flavor that comes from hours in the pot. End the meal with a stroopwaffel parfait and and something from the generous cocktail menu. Seating in the courtyard is sometimes taken over by wedding parties, so it's best to call ahead.
