Fodor's Expert Review Dickenson Bay Cottages
Anchorage Rd., Marble Hill, St. John, Antigua and Barbuda
Lush landscaping snakes around the two-story buildings and pool at this small hillside complex, which offers excellent value for families. The handsomely appointed duplex accommodations feature most of the comforts of home, though the decor is unoriginal and the ventilation is poor. Larger units have verandas with ocean views but aren't worth the higher tariff. Guests enjoy privileges at Rex Halcyon Cove's bustling beach; use of its tennis and water-sports facilities is usually discounted. Other dining and recreational options abound along Dickenson Bay. Children under 12 stay free and additional guests are just $35 per night. This agreeable enclave is often inexplicably empty, so ask about last-minute reductions and check its website for specials.
PROS
- relatively upscale comfort at down-home prices
- walking distance to Dickenson Bay dining and activities
CONS
- hike from beach
- lacks cross-breeze in many units
