Fodor's Expert Review The Crab Shack
Set on the waterfront, the Crab Shack is an American-style diner with a Kiwi twist. Crab-pots and ropes hang from the ceiling. The walls are bedecked in old-world maps and colorful recycled timber. A wide-planked floor, glazed brick walls behind the bar, and bottle-globe lighting complete the nautical theme. Try the Cajun catch of the day, grilled in a charcoal barrel and served with red pepper-lime sauce, potato hash, and chipotle slaw. Or how about the King? That's nearly 2 pounds of Red King crab with jalapeño crème fraîche and Bloody Mary mayonnaise. Youngsters will love old-school dishes like fish-and-chips or bangers-and-mash.
