Fodor's Expert Review Motueka River Lodge

Motueka Valley Hwy. (State Hwy. 61), Motueka, Tasman, 7196, New Zealand

Tranquillity, marvelous mountain views, and a superb standard of comfort are the hallmarks of this rustic lodge on 35 acres overlooking the Motueka River and accented with antiques from around the world. A sunny deck, vine-covered archways, and fragrant lavender hedges give the place a Mediterranean quality. You can hike the national parks nearby, but the lodge's specialty is fishing, especially dry fly-fishing for brown trout in the wild river country. Great cuisine is prepared by resident chef Angela Bone. Bookings are essential during the October to April fishing season.
