This truly private haven sheltered beneath tall trees beside Lake Rotoroa lures anglers with a combination of old-fashioned personality and newfangled luxury, from the brass beds and hunting trophies to the expert fishing guides. The lodge was built for "gentlemen travelers" in the days when horse and buggy was the local transport, and this was the main track south, and still caters to well-heeled travelers with fine cuisine and outstanding wine list.
