Through the double gates and beyond the shell-and-stone patio is a little getaway with a hint of Spain, housed in a classic 1912 kauri villa. Run by an ex-winemaker and a Kiwi chef, the focus is on local wild-game, shellfish from the region's aquaculture farms, and free-range and organic produce where possible. Tapas can be an adventure; try the kangaroo kebabs, smoked eel filos or Albondigas (free-range pork and olive meatballs with spicy tomato sauce). For your main, smoked duck breast with caramelised orange and chilli sauce is a winning signature dish. Light mains are also available—if the tapas aren't enough! Beautiful outdoor courtyard for summer, crackling fire inside in winter. It's Spanish, with strong Kiwi flavors.
