A stylish, water-side vineyard lodge with hosts who live for wine—it could get worse! Built of river stone and untreated timber, the lodge looks half stone-cottage and half sprawling-barn as befits the New Zealand rural landscape. The guest rooms have beamed ceilings and four-poster beds; one turreted suite overlooks a small vineyard and the harbor. For an extra charge, hosts Kerry and Anne Guy prepare dinner, accompanied by wine, from their own vineyard or a picnic basket to take away. Mountain bikes, kayaks, small sailing boats, and a dinghy are available for guests.
