Fodor's Expert Review Port of Call
Leask Bay Rd., Invercargill, Southland, 9846, New Zealand
From this modern B&B overlooking Halfmoon Bay and the Foveaux Strait you can wander the trails through 20 acres of native bush, bordering a lush wilderness teeming with birdlife. Return to the pleasant guest room and drinks by a cozy fire in the lounge. Philippa Fraser-Wilson and sixth-generation islander Ian Wilson also own and operate Stewart Island Water Taxi & Eco-guiding, which offers guided and nonguided trips around the island. They have two other fully equipped and totally enchanting properties: the Bach and Turner cottages, where you can choose to "self-cater," or have Philippa spoil you with baskets of homemade breakfast goodies.
