When to Go

Although the most popular period is from November through mid-April, most attractions can be enjoyed year-round. Spring is garden festival time in Taranaki. Summer is obviously warmer and great for swimming or surfing. However, the weather is often more settled during winter—unlike some South Island regions, it generally has no harsh snow or ice conditions to thwart travel—and there are fewer people.
