Fodor's Expert Review Church Road Winery

Although owned by Pernod-Ricard, this winery operates pretty much as a separate entity, and its wines bear a Church Road label. The Chardonnay is a nationwide restaurant staple, and the many variations on the Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot themes are all worth sampling. A McDonald series features limited-release wines with styles and varieties unique to Church Road. Tours of the wine museum and expertly restored cellars are given daily (NZ$17.50, tasting included); a behind-the-scenes version is also available (NZ$35, with wine-and-food pairings). Bookings are essential. The winery's on-site restaurant is open for lunch daily.
