Fodor's Expert Review The Boatshed
Tawa and Huia Sts., Little Oneroa, Waiheke Island, Auckland, Auckland, 1081, New Zealand
If you feel like staying in a "lighthouse" without the responsibility for ships, this two-story turret suite at The Boatshed maybe the place for you. Up a spiral staircase are glass doors that open from a dayroom onto a wraparound deck with views over the golden sands of Oneroa Bay, where boats moor and the swimming is great. A long central room, with doors onto a sail-covered deck, divides this boutique hotel and opens onto a cozy sunken lounge. In the Bridge Room, up a flight of stairs, bifold windows off the sun porch frame a view of the bay. If you go for one of the three Boatshed Rooms, leave the louvered doors to your private deck open for fresh sea air as you sleep. Owner Jonathan Scott, a former chef, prepares dinners by arrangement. Helicopter transport to and from the Boatshed can be arranged.
