Passports & Visas

The entry requirements for French Polynesia are quite similar to France, but they can and do change, so check with a travel agent before you depart. Every traveler needs a round-trip ticket and a passport valid for six months beyond their stay in the country. U.S. and Canadian citizens can stay up to one month without a visa. As French Polynesia is a French overseas territory, extensions can be obtained by applying to the French High Commissioner or by applying locally to the Police aux Frontieres, located in the Faa'a airport or next to the Visitors Bureau in Pape'ete, but this needs to be done one week before the expiration date on the visa. There is a 3,000 CFP fee, and the extension is good for up to three months.
