Adventure Tours

Whether you're staying in Nadi, Port Denarau, or the Coral Coast, you can get farther into or off the island by joining an organized day trip.

Adventures in Paradise. Two tour options with Fijian-owned Adventures in Paradise offer a balance of natural, cultural, and educational components; both are six to seven hours depending on where you come from. The separate waterfall and cave tours begin with a traditional kava ceremony and storytelling in a village, and include lunch. The waterfall tour takes you to an idyllic natural swimming lagoon with a 120-foot waterfall where you feed fish and learn how to husk a coconut; tours are offered Monday, Wednesday, and Friday.

The cave tour includes a short bilibili (bamboo raft ride) that leads to the Naihehe Caves where you see priest chambers and a cannibal oven among the stalactites and other formations. A second, longer bilibili ride, with a chance for swimming in the river, returns you to the bus; tours are offered Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday. Prices include round-trip transportation. Robinson Crusoe Island Tours. Robinson Crusoe Island offers two tours, which combine cultural experience and beach activities with traditional Fijian fare thrown in. Both the Day Tour and the Night Tour include a river cruise down the Tuva river before crossing the sheltered waters to the private island. The day tour includes coconut tree climbing, a bush walk and visit to the ancient pottery site, though there's plenty of time for the beach activities, too. Kids are especially well catered to. Both tours include plenty of traditional dancing, and lovo feast, and the night tour includes firewalking. The day tour departs there jetty at 10 am, returning 5 pm; the night tour departs their jetty at 5 pm, returning at 10 pm. Transfers to all the hotels are available for an extra charge depending on distance. Day tours are Tuesday, Thursday, and Sunday; night tours (which can also be done as a day-plus night combo) are Wednesday and Saturday. Nadi, Viti Levu. 628--1999; www.robinsoncrusoeislandfiji.com.
