Fodor's Expert Review Moody's Namena
Vanua Levu, Northern, Fiji
Editor's Note: This location is no longer in operation.
A private island south of Vanua Levu, this resort offers extremely personalized service to a maximum of 12 guests. Five spacious bure are well-spread on two cliff-top ridges, a sixth sits on the beach. Each is a studio-style hexagon with a king-size canopy bed and walls that slide open in order to capture the breeze and views. Certified divers can explore Namena Barrier Reef, considered among Fiji's premiere dive areas; snorkeling is great off the beach. The 110-acre island has a fantastic array of wildlife, including turtles that come to lay their eggs. Meals are communal although guests can dine on their porches, and the kitchen takes requests. Breakfast includes classic hot fare and a main dish; lunch is an all-you-can-eat buffet; and dinner includes a salad, entrée, and dessert. Technically in the Lomaiviti Group, the island is much closer to Vanua Levu and guests fly into Savusavu. A minimum five-night stay is required.
