Fodor's Expert Review Tiliva Resort

Kadavu, Kadavu, Fiji

Editor's Note: This property is currently undergoing renovations.

Six high-ceilinged, tropically appointed bures set far apart allow couples and families plenty of space at this boutique resort on Kadavu's eastern tip. It's run by Kemu "Kim" Yabaki, who grew up in nearby Tiliva Village, left to travel the world at 17, and returned 38 years later with wife Barbara to build a resort. When you aren't relaxing or diving with the operation at nearby Waisalima, you can kayak, trek through the mountains, or picnic on Ono Island's beaches a short boat-ride away. From the bures, it's a quick walk down the hill to the resort's beautiful strip of beach or up to the dining bure's large, comfortable outdoor deck overlooking the water. Lunches usually include a salad and fish-and-chips, and you're often asked whether you prefer chicken, meat, or fish for an entrée for that evening's Continental-style dinner.
