Health

There have been infrequent outbreaks of dengue fever in the Cook Islands, about every five years or so. The best prevention is to always wear tropical-strength insect repellant. The symptoms of dengue, also known as "breakbone fever," are nausea, headaches, sore throat, joint pains, chills, and a rash. There's no vaccine; bed rest and fluids are the only ways to recover.
