The lovely town of Margaret River is considered the center of the South West's wine region, though vineyards and wineries stretch well beyond its pretty surroundings. Nevertheless, there are more than 140 wineries in the region that share the same name (to confuse things further, there’s also a river called Margaret River), offering tastings and sales of some of the world's best wines. The region is often compared to France's Bordeaux for its similar climate and soils; it’s gaining huge national and international acclaim for its exceptional red and white vintages, the most notable labels touting Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, Shiraz, and Cabernet-Merlot blends.
