Timing

Perth and surroundings can be visited in two to three days, if you're short on time and plan to explore farther afield. Spend the first day in central Perth, visiting Kings Park, the Perth Cultural Centre, the Hay Street and Murray Street shopping malls, great restaurants, and small bars, and, perhaps, the Swan Bells Tower. On the second day, head to Perth’s most stunning piece of coastline, Cottesloe Beach. Continue on to Fremantle, about 30 minutes from the city by train, where you can spend the rest of the day exploring this heritage port city. On the third day, take a day trip to Rottnest Island by ferry (30–60 minutes each way from the city center, Fremantle, or Hillarys). An upriver cruise to the Swan Valley that includes a visit to a winery and lunch also makes for a relaxing day.
