Tours

Several companies operate winery tours from Melbourne or the Yarra Valley itself. Tours generally include visits to four to five wineries and lunch.

Swans on Doongalla Horse Drawn Carriages. Daily from 11 to 4, visit four wineries in horse-drawn carriages along St. Huberts Road in a stretched horse-drawn carriage. A light lunch is served at Yering Farm winery. The meeting place is St. Huberts Winery. Victoria. 03/9762–1910; 0419/877–093; www.swansondoongalla.com.au. From A$110.

Wine Tours Victoria. These full-day tours depart from Melbourne and visit four to five wineries in the four winery regions surrounding Port Phillip Bay. Lunch is included. Victoria. 03/5428–8500; 1800/946386; www.winetours.com.au. From A$165.

Yarra Valley Railway. Rail enthusiasts can still enjoy the tracks even though regular passenger train services to Healesville ceased in 1980. You can travel along part of the track in railmotors (all-in-one motor and carriage) operated by the Yarra Valley Railway. The railmotors travel from Healesville through picturesque country, over Watts River, under bridges, and through the historic Tarrawarra brick tunnel and back again—a round trip of about 8 km (5 miles) that takes about 45 minutes. Healesville-Kinglake Rd., Healesville, Victoria, 3777. 03/5962–4429; www.yvr.com.au. From A$15. Sun. 10–4.
